There are a number of past, ongoing, or proposed experiments sensitive to oscillating nucleon electric dipole moments (NEDMs) induced by ultralight dark matter comprised by pseudo-scalar pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons. We show that, in a sizeable part of the parameter space spanned by the coupling to the NEDM and the mass,  these pseudo-Nambu-Goldstone bosons can be identified with proper QCD axions, that is in this region they may also solve the strong CP problem. This parameter space is within tantalizing reach of the experimental projects for the next decades.
