OVERVIEW

Magnetism stands as a critically important topic of research, bearing significant implications for our daily lives. Key components of modern technology, such as memory and storage devices, rely on magnetic materials, and this reliance is anticipated to grow with the emerging field of spintronics and quantum technologies. Computational studies play a pivotal role in designing the magnetic materials of the future. However, modeling these materials in realistic settings remains a formidable challenge. The magnetic behavior originates at the atomic scale, while long-range order takes shape at the nanoscale and beyond.

Moreover, the very nature of long-range order results from the interplay between the localized and itinerant characteristics of electrons, a complexity difficult to capture in modern ab-initio methods. To enhance our understanding of magnetism and related phenomena, diverse computational approaches, grounded in both one-electron band theory and many-body physics, become indispensable. To address these challenges, we aim to convene experts in the field, offering a spectrum of methodological skills and expertise across different classes of magnetic materials through the Advanced Study Group (ASG) activities.

Each member focuses on distinct subjects and methods while employing a specific form of advanced computational approach. Through a series of ASG activities, we aim to foster constructive collaboration through intensive discussions. Particularly, by assembling early-career scientists in the field, our goal is to stimulate active discussions and cultivate an energetic atmosphere within the ASG.
